Brothers and Sisters,
Today's Gospel continues from the sixth chapter according to Saint John. This is Jesus' "Eucharistic Teaching". Last week Jesus multiplied the loaves and the fish. Now in verses 24-35, Jesus explained:
I Myself am the Bread of Life. No one who comes to me shall ever be hungry.
While the multiplication of loaves teaches that Jesus had compassion for the physically hungry, Jesus importantly teaches that He provides us food for our spiritual hunger and growth in communion with God.
Jesus says to the people:
"You are not looking for me because you have seen signs but because you have eaten your fill of the loaves."
The people had been interested only in their stomachs not their souls.
In the Second Reading from Saint Paul's Letter to the Ephesians chapter 4, God asks us to:
"... put aside our selfishness and put on that person created in God's image."
IN THIS SPIRIT OF TODAY'S GOSPEL AND SAINT PAUL'S TEACHING, WE THANK THOSE WHO MINISTER TO THE CHILDREN IN RELIGIOUS EDUCATION SCHOOL.
Thank you to Mr. Jim Brantner and our Volunteer Catechists who help to prepare and conduct our Religious Education Formation. What commitment and dedication and love.
Thank God for His Divine Revelation through in the Bible and the Person of Jesus Christ. And through His Gospel and His Church by our words and actions. Repeatedly the Good News has rang out that Jesus gave His life to help us and to save us.
Thank you to the Parish Women's Guild, Knights of Columbus and Ladies Auxiliary.
Sincerely in the Lord,
Father Richard York
