The Mission of St. Francis of Assisi’s Religious Education Program is to build a nurturing fertile community of faith, hope and love, through sharing in the Breaking of Bread in our Church’s weekly Mass, teaching the Faith - how adults and children can find intimate communion with Jesus Christ, and service to others. The Mission is to provide an opportunity for each child to become acquainted with Jesus, His Love, His Gospel Teachings, and His Church. We hope to enrich parents in their life-long Religious Education, and assist them to use their Time, Talents, and Treasure in being fruitful witnesses to Jesus Christ.
Philosophy
The Religious Education Program is an extension of the teaching mission of the Church. It is about all of us, as members of the Body of Christ, learning, witnessing and growing in our Faith together. The programs we will use this year teach the children/adults what we believe and how to live what we believe. This Liturgical Catechesis has three main themes - Scripture, Doctrine and the Church’s Liturgical Year. Our religious education in the Faith and our worship at Mass every week are woven together, and help us work and grow together in our Catholic Christian way of life.
Goal
Our goal is to support parents in properly educating and forming their children in the ways of faith in accord with the teachings of the Catholic Church. At St. Francis of Assisi the children qualified to receive First Reconciliation, Eucharist or Confirmation must be enrolled in the religious education classes.
Class times:- Tuesday5:30p.m. - 6:45p.m. Grades K - 4
Wednesday5:30p.m. - 6:45p.m. Grades 5 – 12
Classes are held in the Parish Hall.
We encourage all our parish families to celebrate together at the 10:00a.m. Mass on the first Sunday of each month. (With refreshments afterwards in the Parish Hall). However, parents are reminded of the obligation that they and their children attend Mass every Sunday. The U.S. Catholic bishops have encouraged us to think in terms of "life-long religious education." We never stop learning, we never stop being a witness to Jesus Christ. Religious education goes on and on and on.This year we are starting parent enrichment classes at the same time as the children are having their classes. Bishop Frank Dewane of the Diocese of Venice has mandated that from Easter 2011 the Sacrament of Confirmation will not be conferred until candidates are in the 10th Grade. We will be starting the preparation for Confirmation with Religious Education Classes for 9th Grade on Wedneday evenings from 5:30p.m. to 6:45p.m., in the Parish Hall starting August 2011. If you have questions about Religious Education please call or e-mail the Parish Office.
