About the Event

A few years ago, an atheist living in Frankenmuth, Michigan complained about two crosses on a bridge in town. He insisted that they be removed and the town removed them. He then decided that since he was successful with that, the city shield should also be changed since it had a heart with a cross inside signifying the city’s Lutheran heritage. The residents decided they had had enough and hundreds made their opinions known by placing small white crosses in their front yard. Seeing this quiet but powerful statement, the man removed his complaint, and those simple white crosses remain in those yards today. Across the country, 300 parishes participate in displaying the crosses. Millions of crosses in front yards across our country would provide a powerful and inspiring message for all to see.

The Knights of Columbus Council 7672 and Assembly 2782 are providing the white cross free for a small donation to cover costs.  The Knights of Columbus principles of Charity, Unity, Fraternity, and Patriotism serve as the basis of the Order’s core values which are Integrity, Professionalism, Excellence, and Respect. To that, the Knights encourage all Christians to reinforce their Christian values through a simple display of the White Crosses. The Crosses are offered at all Knights’ functions including the Pancake breakfasts and Spaghetti dinners.
