Dear Parishioners,

My hope and prayer are for your health and happiness in the New Year!

As I prepare for a “new chapter” in my life (retirement), so also your parish of Saint Francis of Assisi prepares for a “new chapter” – a new leader.

Before retiring as Pastor on January 11, I want to say “Thank You” for being a member of the Parish.   I write to thank you and to invite you to increase your stewardship for the future of our parish – even though I will not be here.

As you well know, this year has been a challenge for all of us, including our Parish, because of the virus, Covid-19.   To be honest, our donations are substantially down while the expense of running the parish has not changed – salaries, health insurance, utilities, maintenance, etc.  These are fixed obligations, not wishful spending.  Already this fiscal year (beginning July 1), the parish has borrowed over $75,000 from savings – a deficit of $15,000 per month.  Our Offertory is down over 25% from last year and our CFA total is over $20,000 short of last year.   I realize your income might also be suffering.

I write to ask you to look into your heart and commit to increasing your tithe, your weekly donation.  The Parish Finance Council has recommended that I write to you before I leave, and they have promised to review our expenditures so that we will not have to drain our savings. Even though you may not be obligated to attend Mass, we still need you to support our Parish.

Please help support our wonderful parish in these difficult times.   Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver (2 Corinthian 9:7).   As we pray our St. Francis Prayer: “for it is in giving that we receive”, may God bless your generosity with many graces.

Sincerely in the Lord,

Father Richard York, Pastor
