Confirmation Preparation (High School)

Confirmation preparation involves spiritual and educational steps designed to deepen a candidate's relationship with Christ and the Church. Key requirements include religious education classes, selecting a patron saint, choosing a practicing Catholic sponsor, participating in a retreat, and performing community service.

Key Steps and Requirements

  • Religious Education Classes: Candidates attend monthly preparation classes to study the Catholic teachings.  To review the Confirmation Study Guide, use the button below.

  • Sponsor Selection: You must choose a sponsor to guide you. They must be at least 16 years old, a fully initiated and practicing Catholic (Baptized, Confirmed, and Eucharist), and cannot be your parent.

  • Confirmation Name: Candidates select a patron saint’s name to represent a new chapter in their spiritual life and often write a short essay explaining why they chose that saint.

  • Retreats & Service: Many parishes require candidates to attend a weekend or day-long retreat and complete a minimum number of community service hours.  CLICK HERE for a copy of the Volunteer Hours Verification form.

  • Sacrament of Reconciliation: Candidates are encouraged to go to Confession regularly before receiving the Sacrament of Confirmation to spiritually cleanse their souls.

Confirmation Preparation is a two-year program, usually taking place in 9th and 10th grade.  Both years consist of sacramental preparation classes.  Classes are on the second Sunday of each month, after the 10:00 or 10:30 AM Mass in the Parish Center.  This year, classes begin on September 13, 2026. You can view this year's calendar and register below.
